It was a shocking news for thousands of youths today , when they came across the news that the quality of tea served by Famous Khetla Appa Tea Stalls is adulterated. which may possibly injurious to health. Recent news published that the samples of milk taken at various tea stalls of Khetla Appa by Rajkot Municipal Corporation failed the quality standards.

The surprising facts cropped up were that the milk used in preparing tea was containing less fat & SNF contents. They used various adulterants to increase the thickness of tea.

I have been hearing various rumors from number of peoples that Khetla Appa is using biscuit powder or some sort of thickeners to increase viscosity of tea and now such rumors is confirmed by the findings of Rajkot Municipal Corporation.

Amidst such findings which may affect the health of thousands of consumers, the irony is that even if such culprits gets caught, they will get scot free by paying nominal fine. They are hardly put behind bars.

It is the need of time to bring food adulteration offences under the ambit of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and make adulteration a serious crime where the punishment can go upto life imprisonment.

The Apex Court’s direction with respect to PIL (Public Interest Litigation) in 2012 directing exemplary punishment for those adulterating milk is still awaited. Milk is one of the most frequently adulterated product in India. As per National Survey on Milk Adulteration in 2011, 68.4 % of milk being sold in the country is adulterated.
